Zach and Joey in the NU107 booth
I left behind a fourteen-year career as a broadcaster on FM radio in Manila, Philippines. From 1998-2003, I hosted and produced “Zach and Joey in the Morning” over NU107, an alternative rock station heard over 107.5FM.
My radio career began in newscasting in 1989 when I auditioned on a whim when I was eighteen and landed a part-time gig on 99.5RT. This was the start of an eclectic career where listeners heard my voice over not just the Contemporary Hit Radio (CHR) format but also Jazz, Alternative Rock, and Talk, where I debuted as co-host of “The Morning Show with Jake and Joey” in 1995 on NU107.
I went back to my Alma Mater, 99.5RT, in 1997 as the only female announcer; I went back to the “Station that Rocked the Nation” a year later.
Zach and Joey in the Morning debuted on July 13, 1998. It was a “totally cosmic experience” until March 14, 2003 when I left radio and joined the corporate world of communications training management for an outsourcing company with big clients like Dell, AT&T, and HSBC.
Some days I really miss working in radio. But those days are few and far between.
What Others Say
“Nothing cut through Manila morning show clutter than Joey’s crazysexycool wit and her deranged laughter. In a timeslot full of men, Joey worked it like she had the biggest pair. “Zach & Joey in the Morning”…. Less talk, more yelling.”

“I listened to Zach and Joey a lot back then! And that’s saying a lot by a guy who doesn’t normally do mornings! The show was funny and unpretentious. Thelma as a jock: clear and sexy!”

Hi Thelma,
I used to work in TV (KMBC ch 9 Kansas City) and I remember our producers wandering around the hallways mumbling to themselves about whether they had the right footage or not. Are you sure you want to produce?
Voice work always seemed to be a kick to me. We had Drew Dimmel working at our station and he has branched into so many markets it is not funny I think I was in Ohio one day and heard him on a station ID. Wow does he get around!
BTW that shot of Kyera floating is great, what a jumpshot!.
OK have a blessed day!
Nathan
LOL. Thanks so much for stopping by, Nathan! That is so funny about the producers! It must be highly stressful but in the same breath, very invigorating.
I used to be like Drew in the Philippines. Of course, that didn’t include smaller markets that had dialects, but VOs in Metro Manila are pretty much heard nationwide. It was tiring to spend days going from studio to studio but the money was sure worth it. LOL.
Kyera’s pretty good with the camera I got her! I hope it’ll bring her a hefty return some day.
God bless you, Nathan.
hi joey! thank you for stopping by NU’s airwaves this afternoon. you brought back so many memories from the zach and joey days. long live NU, long live rock ‘n roll!
hey joey! i really miss the show!
got into the shower this morning and the zach and joey 8 in the moooooooooooooorniiiiiiiiiiiing…….. just played in my mind. i wanna go back to those days. sigh.
Thanks so much, yob! I miss our show, too.
Maybe someday…
*crosses fingers*
Thelma/Joey: I am a big fan of the Morning Show. I listened to you extensively – even way before Zach – and it was Jake then. I am a big fan of the 90s for sure and your show just ‘triggered’ and ‘jolted’ me every morning on way to DLSU. I wish you all the happiness in life and all the greatest of God’s blessings to yourself and your daughter!
Awww, thank you so much, Eric! I really appreciate hearing that you enjoyed what we had to offer every morning. I always used to feel that we may have been a bit loud for people. But while that may have been true, we were just being ourselves. Ha ha ha! I know that where I am know is where God wants me to be, but I also know that He tends to take us out of our comfort zone from time to time so I’m not closing any doors to working in mainstream media again someday, somehow. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi!
How can I forget the voice that Joyce Jimenez was trying to copy? =P
Before there was this Twisted, then came Zach and Joey. I guess would be the nicest show in NU107 or in the whole bandwidth of the FM radio airwave.
Oh, I was googling something else but your page came up.. I couldn’t recall now what I was really trying to search.
Anyway. I great the show, good job and I missed it.. and of course NU. If I can finance it just for fun, why not.
Enjoy your day!

Awww, thanks so much, finn! Google rocks.
